Building a stronger Housatonic together.
Friends of Housatonic
Housatonic is more than a place on a map. It is a living village: shaped by the people who call it home, the stories we share, the places we care for, and the traditions we create together.
● About
What We Believe
Strong communities don’t happen by accident. They grow every time neighbors gather around a table, plant a tree, restore a building, organize a festival, mentor a young person, support a local artist, or decide that an idea worth caring about is also worth doing.
We believe that when people have the support to act on their ideas, villages become more connected, more resilient, and more joyful.
That’s where we come in.
We turn community ideas into community realities.

● How We Do It
Community is Built One Project at a Time
Every project begins with someone asking: “What if…?"“
What if Main Street became a long-table dinner? What if we planted more trees? What if kids had another safe place to play? What if there were more opportunities for artists? What if we celebrated Halloween together?
Friends of Housatonic exists to help answer those questions with: “Let’s make it happen”

Housatonic Tree Planting
Ongoing
Friends of Housatonic partners with the Housatonic Improvement Committee, the Great Barrington Tree Committee, the Town of Great Barrington, local organizations, and community volunteers to expand Housatonic’s tree canopy. Together, we’re planting trees that beautify the village, improve public spaces, and contribute to a healthier environment for generations to come.
